Putin Agrees to Weeklong Halt of Strikes on Ukraine, Says Trump
Addressing reporters at the White House, Trump revealed he reached out to Putin personally to seek a temporary cessation of missile bombardments, especially those targeting major urban centers.
"I did call up President Putin," he stated, observing that Russia faces the "same cold wave" the US has recently endured but emphasized that Ukraine is "much colder than us."
"They have a tremendous cold wave," he said, explaining he requested Putin "if you wouldn't shoot for a period of one week, no missiles going into Kyiv or any other towns, and he's agreed to do so."
"It's something," he added.
Following Trump's remarks, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged that Trump asked Putin to halt strikes in Ukraine until Feb. 1 but refused to confirm whether the Russian president accepted the request.
